HAAS+SOHN consumer app for controlling pellet and wood-burning stoves.

The history of the traditional company HAAS+SOHN began in 1854 in Hesse and later continued in Puch near Hallein in the Salzburg region. Today, HAAS+SOHN is a full-range supplier in the industry, specializing in modern stoves and ranges. Its product range includes fireplace kits, wood-burning and pellet stoves, and ranges. Since its founding, the central goal of HAAS+SOHN OFENTECHNIK GMBH has been to offer its customers comfort and well-being – or, put simply: to create a GOOD TIME. In a fiercely contested market segment, HAAS+SOHN strives to create excellent stove products that impress in terms of innovation and quality.

The challenge

The digitalization of consumer devices makes them more attractive, more convenient, and safer. Consumers increasingly choose manufacturers that offer mobile apps for controlling their devices. These apps enable convenient and efficient operation from anywhere, improve the longevity and environmental compatibility of the devices, and offer attractive services.

When introducing a new wood-burning stove line, HAAS+SOHN decided to integrate modern digitalization technology into its wood stoves. This decision laid the foundation for innovative added value that gives a modern interpretation to a traditional and popular heating method. In this way, the efficiency that had declined relative to newer heating technologies is significantly improved, and the competitiveness of this technology is ensured.

In order to make optimal use of the data generated by the newly installed sensor technology, HAAS+SOHN sought collaboration with a regional digitalization company. IoT Internet of Things GmbH was selected as the partner and commissioned to develop a modern app solution for the customer.

The solution

The new HAAS+SOHN control app for wood-burning and pellet stoves was developed to enable customers to heat cleanly and in an environmentally friendly way thanks to smart technology. The sensor data generated in the stove during operation monitors the burning behavior of the wood and guides the user, via the app, to operate the stove optimally. In this way, the stove achieves a previously unattainable level of efficiency while minimizing heating costs at the same time. Clean heating through optimized burning behavior extends the service life of the stove and thus fulfills the company’s promise of spending many years enjoying a GOOD TIME with HAAS+SOHN stove products.

For the technical solution, IoT Internet of Things GmbH deployed its powerful IoT platform IoTECPRO and its extensive experience as a pioneer in the development of mobile applications. The HAAS+SOHN pellet and wood-burning stoves connected to IoTECPRO send their device status and sensor data from various countries to the IoTECPRO data hub. Every day, the hub receives an impressive volume of more than 1 billion data points, which are processed into individualized data pushes at 10-second intervals and sent to thousands of consumer apps. In this way, the user conveniently receives, from anywhere, the latest information on the operation of their HAAS+SOHN stove, status messages (condition data, error messages), and instructions for operating it as efficiently as possible.

The customer app offers the ability to individually control and program the temperature of all HAAS+SOHN stoves in a household. Up to five users can use the timer function and weekly schedules. These new operating functions provide even more comfort and convenience.

IoTECPRO offers HAAS+SOHN digital device management that enables the central roll-out of firmware updates. Alternatively, updates can also be carried out individually by the customer or maintenance technician directly on the device.

Even today, IoTECPRO already provides the technical prerequisites for future value-creation opportunities. It enables the implementation of a service grid with automated ticket creation, which leads to continuous improvement in service quality and customer satisfaction. This ultimately contributes to the business success of HAAS+SOHN OFENTECHNIK GMBH.
