Perfect tender management for Austria’s biggest brand. Twice as fast as before.
Over the past years, the Kufstein-based company Berger Logistik has evolved from a high-performance transport-services partner into a supply chain management expert. Berger not only provides a smooth and efficient supply chain design but also identifies untapped potential in logistics processes and develops individual solutions for it that help its customers cut costs, increase profit margins, and boost their productivity. The impact Berger has created in the market is nothing less than “end-to-end supply chain excellence”: long-term logistics strategies for land and sea freight that lead to sustainable competitive advantages, increased value creation, and unleashed performance for its customers.
Berger Logistik delivers its range of services through an international logistics network in which numerous providers make the most attractive offers and services available on demand. Logistics requirements meet logistics offers on a day-to-day basis, which are compared, evaluated, and commissioned in the shortest possible time. In the logistics industry, this bidding procedure goes by the name “tender management” and is emerging in the international movement of goods within a globalized economy as a key discipline that successful players must master – or risk irrevocably losing their competitiveness.
The challenge
The challenges in the tender process of the past were varied but were primarily based on problems driven by three factors:
- Data inconsistency: incorrect rates, faulty price lists, and poor master data quality.
- Manual processes: high susceptibility to errors, long process duration of up to 2 weeks from the call for tenders, high effort, and high costs.
- Inefficient and expensive software: the partly digitalized processes did not meet the high demands of seamless exchange with the international bidders. At the end of offer generation, extensive and partly faulty Excel lists had to be evaluated by hand, with great potential for damage from incorrect calculations.
The solution
Based on existing project experience in the field of logistics software, Berger chose to work with IoT Internet of Things GmbH. Together, a clear and transparent structure was brought to all processes of tender management and set up as an individual software solution on the basis of the IoTECBUSY software module. This created a single place where all processes and data are linked – combined with a role-based permission system that clearly defines and limits access options as the tender process progresses and, as a result, eliminates sources of error. The effort on Berger’s side was significantly reduced, as suppliers now maintain their relevant data themselves and significantly shorten the offer-generation process – from up to 2 weeks to less than 5 days, which corresponds to an impressive time saving of 60–70%. On top of this, the software from IoT Internet of Things GmbH provides an exact data basis for billing and invoice control, which eliminated revenue losses on all sides involved and substantially reduced the business risk. Berger’s customers also benefit from standardized reporting, as well as the ability to plan their supply chain on a quarterly and annual basis.
